Which mode should a beginner choose?
If you want to pursue the objective described on the game page, look for Escape and follow the prompts shown. If you want to try another mode, read its in-game description first. The mode name alone does not prove that Free Roam is enemy-free or that Hide And Seek assigns the Cat to a human player.
Modes, maps, and challenges are different things
A mode is a ruleset; a map is a location. The badge catalog includes references to the school’s Cat in the Hat escape, Mines, Play Place, and No Power variants. Those labels should not be added to the three-mode list as if the official description had named them all as modes.

What can change between updates?
The menu, available maps, event access, and round rules can change independently of a short public description. This page records what the source said on the review date. Always compare it with the current in-game menu.
